ELTT OLD LIFEBOAT STATION project team visit the site after close of play one afternoon last week. Here you can see that the chimney stack has been well raked out before it ‘s repointed. The original slates have been cleaned and are being re-laid with copper nails over modern roof lining and batons.

A number of potentially serious defects have been discovered during the work which have been straightforward to fix, but which would have caused trouble had they not been discovered during this restoration project.
The Trust is making a significant contribution to the cost from our own funds. The lead funder is the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Good Growth fund. As part of the project, an on-line history of the three historic Looe lifeboats has received funding from Project Ryder and the Carew Pole Trust. We are also delighted to be working with the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership to produce a circular heritage and conservation walk as part of their ‘Great British Scenic Railways – walks from the railway’ series.
For example this vertical crack in the Watchtower will be properly repaired before it causes real trouble to this Grade II listed building.
